Brad Pitt Is Drinking Again After 7 Years Sober. Does That Mean You Should Too?

Brad Pitt is drinking again.

In a new Esquire interview, Pitt revealed that after seven years of sobriety, he decided to start drinking again. He says he now drinks in a “more restrained manner” and admitted that getting overconfident with alcohol a few times reminded him that drinking heavily simply doesn’t work for him.

And because he’s Brad Pitt, there’s a good chance this story is going to make its way onto your feed.

So here’s your reminder:

Brad Pitt’s decision is not your permission slip.

If quitting alcohol, or any bad habit, has made your life better, you do not need to reconsider that decision because someone famous did.

Going back to an old habit isn’t suddenly cool, evolved or proof that you’ve “healed.” And moderation isn’t some higher level everyone eventually needs to graduate to.

For some people, moderation may work. For others, one drink wakes up the exact pattern they worked incredibly hard to put to sleep.

Pitt himself has previously spoken openly about how important sobriety was in his life. He joined a 12-step program after quitting alcohol in 2016 and has described the experience as transformational.

His journey is his journey.

Yours is yours.

If you stopped drinking because you hated your hangovers, anxiety, regret, lack of control or the person you became when you drank, none of those reasons disappeared because Brad Pitt ordered a glass of wine.

The same applies to any habit you’re trying to change.

Smoking.
Vaping.
Sugar.
Late-night eating.
Doomscrolling.
Whatever keeps pulling you back into a pattern you already decided you wanted out of.

You don't need to test whether the old habit magically works for you now.

Sometimes the biggest flex is simply recognizing:

“My life is better without this.”

Protect the progress you've made.
